Murder on the Moor by Julianna Deering

I received this book for free from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest review as part of this book's blog tour.

Book: Murder on the MOOR, A Drew Farthering Mystery
Author: Julianna Deering
Genre: Historical Mystery
Release Date: February 2017
At the urgent request of an old school friend, Drew and Madeline Farthering come to Bloodworth Park Lodge in the midst of the Yorkshire moors, a place as moody and mysterious as a Brontë hero. There have been several worrisome incidents around those lonesome rolling hills–property desecrated, fires started, sheep and cattle scattered. Worst of all, the vicar has been found dead on the steps of the church, a crime for which Drew can discern no motive at all.

Few in the town of Bunting’s Nest seem like suspects, and Drew can’t keep his suspicions from falling on his friend’s new bride. Do her affections lie more with her husband’s money and estate, while her romantic interests stray to their fiery Welsh gamekeeper? As the danger grows ever closer, it’s up to Drew to look past his own prejudices, determine what’s really going on, and find the killer before it’s too late.

Julianna Deering is the creator of the acclaimed Drew Farthering Mystery series. She has always loved British history and is a particular fan of the writings of Dorothy Sayers and Agatha Christie. She graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a degree in business administration and spent several years as a Certified Public Accountant. She lives outside Dallas, Texas.

My Review:
Julianna Deering is such an amazing writer. Her writing style and the really developed characters that she comes up with just blows one's mind and imagination. She uses so much detail, mystery and romance in her story lines. You will definitely feel like one of that gang once you dive into the Drew Farthering Mysteries. God really blessed Julianna Deering with a passion and talent to drive. I personally can't wait to see what else happens to Drew, Nick and Madeline. You are literally left hanging on the end of your seat in anticipation. She definitely keeps you guessing as to who did the crime. Has stumped me a few times. My sister who is a whiz at knowing pretty much all who dunn its....even gets tricked by Julianna Deering.
In Murder on the Moor, you are greeted and pulled into the plot line when Drew's schoolmate contacts him about a murder that has just happened in the place of Bunting Nest. Murder, Intrigue, Who did it? That I can not tell you but I will say that the ride is definitely worth taking with Mr. and Mrs. Farthering and the whole colorful cast of suspects.
This book had me reading it almost all in one day. That is a huge record for me because its hard for me to stick with a book unless its really interesting to me. I tend to read the same line over and over and over again. I was honored to review this book for Julianna and Bethany House as well as for Celebrate Lit.
Drew and Madeline's relationship and marriage is so refreshing and playful as they have been married two years by this time. There are quite a few suspects that your mind keeps playing over and over again trying to figure out the mystery. All I can say this book definitely keeps you engaged and makes you feel like Julianna Deering is taking you on a wild goose chase. Who dunn it? Can you figure it out before the end of the book?

Begin Again by Crystal Walton

I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review.

From the back of the book:

What happens when a free-spirited artist from big-city New York collides with an uptight business owner from small-town Ocracoke? Fireworks. The kind neither saw coming.

A single call is all it takes to drive artist Ti Russo into what she does best. Run. But hey, lying low in a beach town for a while isn’t so bad. Thanks to the distraction of playing consultant to a guy she’s determined to crack, she can almost forget about the past stalking her back home. But she never counted on the real danger being a picket-fenced life she has no business falling for.

Focus and self-preservation have gotten single dad Drew Anderson through the last nine years. With the threat of his shop’s foreclosure jeopardizing his daughter’s health care, the last thing he needs is a distracting hippie chick swooping in to shake up what he’s fought to protect. Including himself. The bank’s deadline adds enough pressure without re-risking feelings better left buried.

But as sparks flare and secrets escalate, the race against time propels Ti and Drew into a choice neither’s ready to make: Find the faith to surrender their past or forfeit their only chance to begin again.

My thoughts of Crystal Walton:

Crystal Walton is funny, intelligent and creative. She weaves a story that touches the heart and makes you really think about life. I love how she develops her characters, plot lines and the action in the book. She is a great read when you feel in the mood to read something sweet, cute and romantic. I hope to encourage her to keep writing and developing her craft. I have a good feeling that there will be some great to come out of her stories and that they will touch people's lives.

My thoughts on Begin Again:

I love Gilmore Girls and totally got the vibe of Luke and Lorelei in this story but they have their own love thing going on. I love how she takes an artist and clash her together with a big shot from New York City. Tensions fly but also sparks light up the pages. Love is worth fighting for is a big theme in this story between Drew and Ti. This was a delightful read and it was fun getting to know these characters.

This story deals with broken people and by the end of it has you cheering them on as they find their love story and help other characters out. Its amazing how much your life can change when you feel loved, cherished and encouraged.

Sometimes opposites really do attract and it can make for a great story that has you wanting to know more.

Amish Weddings by Leslie Gould

I received this book from Bethany House Publishers for free in exchange for my honest review as part of the Blogger Program.

From the back of the book:

Gregarious Rose Lehman, who's always the life of the Amish youth singings, is determined to marry the bishop's son, Reuben Byler--until the handsome Army buddy of her future brother-in-law shows up in Lancaster County. In comparison to Trevor, Reuben seems downright boring. Trevor shares Rose's sense of fun and adventure, and her easygoing disposition.

When her sister Lila's buggy is rear-ended and Lila is horribly injured, Rose finds herself with more freedom than she's ever experienced. Everyone is so concerned about Lila that no one realizes Rose is sneaking out with Trevor. Except for Reuben. But in his usual passive way, he doesn't confront her, nor does he address the situation with her Dat or anyone else in the district. Rose appreciates Reuben's discretion, but she also resents it. Part of her relishes the freedom she's found with Trevor, but the other part of her wishes Reuben would "fight" for her, as much as any Amish man would. Too late, she realizes the foolish choice she's made. Has she ruined her best chance at love, or is there another path to happiness she just hasn't seen yet?

My thoughts on Leslie Gould:

Leslie Gould is an amazing writer who tells stories from her heart. Her faith is apparent in the Neighbors of Lancaster County series where she brings the characters to life. Once she has brought them to life, they come and live in your hearts, minds and souls almost as if you truly know them in person. Leslie is a down to earth, sweetheart of a person. She goes out of her way to make everyone feel loved and cared about despite how busy she is in her own personal life. Leslie Gould is definitely one of my most favorite authors. Definitely my favorite Amish writer.

My thoughts on the book:

When I saw that this book was going to dig deeper into the relationship between Rose and Reuben, I was excited because I knew that Lila wasn't meant for him. Reuben wasn't a favorite character until now because you didn't get to know too much until now. Rose is confused and mixed up when Zane Beck's military friend Trevor comes for a visit. It definitely shows how girls can get mixed up when they meet someone out of the norm of everyday living. Rose has too learn to trust God with her feelings, to trust Reuben in times of him not paying attention to her or so she thinks. Rose definitely grows up into a beautiful and intelligent young woman with a personality all her own.

Leslie did it again. She tugged at my heartstrings when something terrible happens. I was on the edge of my bed waiting to see if the characters were going to be okay. The thought ran through my head of "How dare she do that? She can't kill them. They are supposed to be happy, what are you doing?" What can I say? Excellent writer. I have come to love the Becks and Lehmans. They are some of the most wonderful and amazing complex characters I have ever had the opportunity to meet in book format. Bravo!!! Bravo Leslie Gould!

I would give this book a 5-star rating. Bethany House did make clear that my opinions are all my own and that I didn't have to give a positive review.
