A Gilded Lady by Elizabeth Camden

I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review as I am on Elizabeth Camden's street team.

From the back of the book:

Caroline Delacroix is at the pinnacle of Washington high society in her role as secretary to the first lady of the United States. But beneath the faade of her beauty, glamorous wardrobe, and dazzling personality, she's hiding a terrible secret. If she cannot untangle a web of foreign espionage, her brother will face execution for treason.

Nathaniel Trask is the newly appointed head of the president's Secret Service team. He is immediately suspicious of Caroline despite his overwhelming attraction to her quick wit and undeniable charm. Desperate to keep the president protected, Nathaniel must battle to keep his focus fully on his job as the threat to the president rises.

Amid the glamorous pageantry of Gilded Age Washington, DC, Caroline and Nathaniel will face adventure, danger, and heartbreak in a race against time that will span the continent and the depth of human emotion.

My Thoughts on the book:

Elizabeth Camden has not let me down once since starting this new series. It has all kinds of elements of love, sabotage, mystery and danger. She truly does take her readers on a journey. This journey just happened to be through the eyes of a security personnel working in the White House protecting the president and his wife. Caroline Delacroix works in the White House as an attendant to the First Lady. This in and of itself has to be a challenging job. To be a caretaker for someone comes with a responsibility for that person. To be their eyes and ears I imagine especially with someone as important as the President's wife. I adore the character of Caroline because in some ways, she reminds me of people I know who are strong and have responsibilities that they do not shy away from.

I can not imagine the job that Nathaniel Trask has in this story is one of ease. He has to check out every single person which I can imagine adds some level of paranoia and loneliness. So it makes sense why. he falls for Caroline with her charm, beauty and wit but I am sure there was even a level of questioning and doubt that he could truly get to know her without thinking of some motive. Paranoia and fear can be a huge mental case for anyone. I know as a person with anxiety....I do not need more people telling me what to be afraid of. You can warn me but please don't give into fear mongering. It doesn't help my fight or flight tendencies.

I rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars. Its a great political, historical type of story if that is your thing. Elizabeth Camden really develops characters and storylines that get you thinking. I can't wait to find out more about these characters as I have to now wait for the next book to come out. Thank you for another adventure Elizabeth Camden. A fan for life.
